92. IPS History Now At Forest Manor

A significant amount of research materials about the Indianapolis Public Schools is now located at the Forest Manor Instructional Center, 4501 E. 32nd Street, Indianapolis 46218. The Instructional Center, housed in the former Forest Manor Middle School building, contains the historical materials that used to be in the Teachers Library in the downtown headquarters site.

Although in a nondescript neighborhood, the building itself is a good research site, with good security and parking.

The second floor media center seems highly underutilized. A 1940's collection of school histories are now in the shelves at the right.

Staff directories from the 1870's to modern times are in file cabinets in the computer training class area.

Each IPS school has a collection of historical materials in the same file cabinet area.

Call (317) 226-3545 to schedule a research time; ask for Sherree Wimbley.

[I've mined these files for numerous data on former IPS staff and students. I recommend that you check them out.]

  1. Looking for photos of 3400 block of Rural St. in Forest Manor, Indiianapolis in the 1940's. Street lined with Dutch Elm, now gone. I grew up there and went to School #69, Joyce Kilmer. Used to walk there. Thanks for any help.
