The genealogical community of the Indy area lost a friend and a long-time genealogist with the death of Warren W. Perney on September 12th.
Warren, one of those dwindling number of Americans who landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day 1944, was married to Jean Wilson Perney for 65 years. Warren and Jean researched and assembled a number of excellent genealogies in the last few years.
He and I had several nice talks about my hometown of Wheeling, WV, as Warren was descended from the Cooey family, who owned a long-time department store there.
Family and friends are gathering to pay their respects today from 2 to 6 at the Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary at E. 71st and Keystone in Indy. Warren's funeral is tomorrow at 1 pm.
My sympathies go out to my friend Jean Perney and her family. Warren will be missed.
