594. Good River Program In New Albany, Sep. 19

[One of my O'Neill ancestors migrated to New Albany in the 1840's and became a steamboat engineer. I'm trying to figure out a way to be in Floyd County next month for this program!]

“Pirates and River Rats.”

The novel Peter Pan and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have inspired much of the modern day interest in seafaring pirates. In fact, September 19, 2015, is “International Talk Like A Pirate Day.”
The theme of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society’s September 3 program is “Pirates and River Rats.” Allison Fredrickson will present a brief history of early high seas piracy. Tina Price will share the story of her grandfather, a commercial fisherman on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers.
Program time is 7 PM in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany, Indiana. For more information, please visit http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~insigs/nextmeet.htm or call Melissa Wiseheart in the library’s Indiana Room at 812-949-3527.
