The Southern Indiana Genealogical Society (SIGS) will celebrate 199 years of Hoosier statehood with its “Happy Birthday Indiana!” program on December 3. Two special guest speakers will present. Olivia Abner, a fifth-grader at Morgan Elementary School in Palmyra, will read her 2014 first-place winning Statehood Day essay, “Signing of the Indiana Constitution Under the Constitution Elm Tree.”
Indiana Bicentennial Commission Deputy Rene Stanley will share information about the 2016 statewide programs and events including SIGS’ “First Families of Floyd, Clark, and Harrison Counties Bicentennial Legacy Project” and the reprinting of Indiana’s 1816 constitution on the original printing press. Refreshments will be served.
Program time is 7 PM in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany, Indiana.
